Photocollection
Władysław Pawelec
The collection of Władyslaw Pawelec, considered the pioneer of erotic photography in Poland, is a cross section of his complete photographic practice. In the 1960s Pawelec dealt with fashion and model photography. In the 1970s, he turned towards nude photography making a name for his erotic sessions “Natalia” and “Monika”. Among the characteristic works of the 1980s are the series “Dreams”, the Surrealist “Ekstaza” – inspired by Baudelaire’s “Les Fleurs du mal”, as well as the series “Zmysły” (material for an unrealized album “Eros in Polish 20th Century Poetry” [Eros w poezji polskiej XX wieku]). The collection also features a large set of photographs from Pawelec’s fashion shoots starring such celebrities as Anna Dymna, Beata Tyszkiewicz, Wojciech Młynarski, Czesław Niemen. The collection’s highlights also include a large number of contact sheets which offer a glimpse into the photographer’s professional methods as well as shedding light on his individual shoots.
